Crazy Cat Bakers - Gem of the Weekend

Garrad and I have had an eventful few days here in Jackson.  Thursday night, we attended the Boom Jackson magazine party (G wrote two articles for it).  We had Lumpkins BBQ, Petra Cafe, Olga's Fine Dining, and Parlor Market grub, but also enjoyed 13th Colony Vodka.  This distillery, of Americus, Georgia, is run by some young up and comers in the food and restaurant world and I'm really impressed with their work - small batch liquors that are tasty and refreshing.

Friday night, we began celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary, so we started out with a dinner of appetizers:  a cheese and sausage plate, white bean dip, roasted vegetable dip, and bacon wrapped shrimp with fruit and crackers.

Saturday, we hit the sandwich jackpot in a way that hasn't happened for me in a while in Jackson.  We finally found our way over to Crazy Cat Bakers in Highland Village, run by John Lansdale, a friend of Garrad's from his days at Bon Ami.

Crazy Cat is in a cozy little spot in the corner of the shopping center, and is decorated with the many ingredients John uses in his desserts and lunch and dinner service.  I had the Highland Club, a grilled turkey, bacon, and brie sandwich with a basil pesto mayo.  I could barely put it down long enough to take a picture!  Garrad's caramelized onion BLT was also beautiful and tasty.

As we ate our food wonderful smells of fresh baked goods wafted our way, so we had no choice but to pick something from the dessert case at the end of the meal.  How do you choose one dessert when you're staring down Milky Way pound cake, cappuccino brownies, lemon butter cake, and strawberry cupcakes? You compromise with your husband, pick one, and pledge to come back very soon to eat more.  In this case we got the lemon butter cake:  chewy crust, caramelized sugar on top, and gooey lemon filling.  I can't even wait for the pound cake, as well as the dinner they serve Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
